The Things You Should Have Handy in Your Work Desk

I was inspired to write up something about useful items and supplies to have in your desk at work after I reached into mine earlier and found a few candy boxes given to me by my supervisor sometime around Christmas. Were these candy boxes useful to me? Well, not at first. But a few times when I’ve needed a burst in energy or simply found myself too hungry to focus on my work, I dug into them. So, yes, they were useful.

After digging around in my desk and asking a few of my coworkers what all they have in theirs that they find quite useful from time to time, I’ve come up with quite an interesting array of things that you may not have thought about for your desk.

Computer mouse

Don’t leave this thing out unless it’s connected to your computer and your company owns it. If it gets taken then or something is spilled on it, that’s up to the company to replace it. But if it’s yours (which mine most certainly is, because I’m picky about mine), I store it within my desk when it’s not in use. No reason to leave it out.

Pens and lined paper

Duh, right? Well, you’d be surprised how many people don’t have their own and have to ask coworkers for either of these items. There is such thing as keeping organized on your computer if you can manage all the documents, but sometimes good old pen and paper are just quicker, easier, and the way we’ve always done things.

Passwords

You’ll always be glad to have a small notebook or pad of index cards with your passwords on them. Obviously you were told when growing up to not make all of your usernames and passwords the same (and you probably still did it anyway). But some of yours will be work related where you didn’t create them. Some of them will be updated passwords with a different year. Some will be entirely different for whatever reason. There’s no way to remember them all without some form of tracking system, and this is one of the easiest and most useful ways to do it.

Snacks

Yes, I stole this one from my supervisor putting candy in my desk. Snacks are fine so long as they don’t melt to your inner desk. They’re quite handy in boosting your mood, quenching your appetite, and even giving you a bit of energy to get back at the job when you’re feeling drowsy or off. Why not, right?

Labels for Packaging

Labels are important for a lot of things. A label is essentially a paper or other type of material that gives the person the information about the item that this is attached to.

It’s informative for a lot of packaging, especially in terms of the product, and the functions that are there.

This was further realized with all of the different materials that are there. You can use paper, polymers, wood, metal, even fabric and others.  You can print this on different packaging, or even put it on the surfaces of certain products, primarily through different adhesives, through the IML process, binding, water and glue.

Labels are vital because they provide information that’s useful about both products, and even packaging, and will draw customers to specific items.  They must be clear, visible, easy to read, and finally, simple to understand.

There are four major categories for this.

They include the brand labels, which you use in clothing and textiles, which show the name of the product, and the brand, in order to show the brand and the product, where it belongs, and the variations, adding a unique form of purchasing.

There are also different grade labels, which bear the different quality of said products, typically done through figures and numbers, such as A, B, C and D.

There are descriptive labels which showcase the product features, all special warnings, care, and security.

Finally, you’ve got the informative labels which give the logistic, the technical, commercial, legal, and finally the promotional aspects about the product which are far more detailed and also more descriptive based on the product category and the project.

One of the primary features of this, is that they talk about the case and the usage of these products, the name of the manufacturer, the address, date of expiration, the components or ingredients of the product, also shipping and the handling of such, including the warranties and certificates as well, and finally all suggestions and warnings.

Some of these items are becoming mandatory based on the laws for a lot of products. Foodstuffs for instance are commonly a part of this.

There is also different information that’s presented through the use of different standards of symbols that are recognized everywhere within the world, allowing you to get this easily.  This is something that conveys the information in more limited spaces.

There are a lot of different symbols that are used. For instance, recycling symbols talk about how it’s recyclable, while flammable conveys that there are some flammable items.  There are also food safe symbols which means that you’re going to get a food safe item.

Some industries also use these labels to identify products. One example of this is wine packaging.  Some jam containers and cosmetic packaging also use this.

A lot of packaging suffers from looking almost identical, and the labeling does make a huge difference to a lot of consumers, and also conveys something more important for many: the product!

If you wish to deal with packaging of these types of items, the goal is to create something that’s not only functional, but also amazing in order to get customers to think about this product, and it being the best one for you to buy.

Ultimately, labels are also important for purchasing too, as they do set a lot of the different products that are there.  This happens when there are different items with different colors, finishes, tastes, and the like.

Remember that labeling is more than just something for packaging, but they can tell your customers vital information about the product and what it does.
